Simplicity Public Relations

Well, this site was picked up by Fontana Village since I was their employee. They liked seeing what can be done in the area... Now that my time at Fontana Village is over, it is time to move on... I have started my own company called Simplicity Public Relations. This company can do everything from PR, Graphic Design, and Websites.

We are excited to have our first client within one week of starting business and look forward to even more. Their website will be up soon.

Please keep in touch. If you are on Facebook please follow us! Or check out the new blog at www.jerryspan.com.

Sunset Beach

Our vacation was extended based on fortunate circumstances and we got to spend some great time with our pastor and his wife, not to mention their kids at Sunset Beach, NC. I really needed a beach fix since I hadn't emerged myself in one in more then likely a decade.
It was great to almost get a tan again and feel the peacefulness of a wave pulling you throw the water. It was great to see my daughter enjoy bogey boarding as well.

Doc Watson

After our trip at Nashville I headed to a concert in Stecoah Valley. This was a phenomenal concert with legendary Doc Watson and David Holt. Doc is a Grammy Award Winner, not too mention a blind musician who is one of the founders of bluegrass and his own style of picking.

It was a moving show that was great to be a part of. Even though I am not fully familiar with Doc's music I have some of his stuff, and it was great to be so close to this artist.

There is a festival that is world renowned named after Doc son who died in a farming accident. Merle's son played at this show also. It was an experience I will forever remember. After this show I slept at home and then headed to our vacation at Sunset Beach.

Centennial Park

On the second day of our vacation in Nashville we headed over to Centennial Park. We walked around a little bit checking out the Parthenon, which was closed, and then went to a playground for the kids.

Today is our last full day in Nashville. We will head back to Stecoah tomorrow where we will see a Doc Watson show then head out to Sunset Beach, NC for our beach fix. It feels so good to be on vacation!

Chattanooga and Nashville

The family headed out to a mini vacation to Chattanooga and Nashville. we stopped at a few place with our caravan of the Bakers. Our first stop was at Coolidge Park where Evely and Pence made us proud by playing with an iPod in this grand play area. After playing around we ate at a place called Mud Pie which had some unusual seating. We burned off our food with a walk where Justin really admired the juggling unicycles.
We got back on the road and while the Bakers went home we stopped at Stone River National Battlefield for a cancelation in our Passport.
We are in Nashville now and will have more updates.

Xmas in August at NOC

The other night The Grove played at Nantahala Outdoor Center's employee party. It was a great time to help out a community business that provides a lot for Swain County. Here are some pics of the night. They are pics of a few of the band members and their food eating contest which was a tribute to Elf. They had to eat spaghetti with pop tart, syrup, and chocolate. The contestants had a hard time eating all of it.

House for Sale

We are putting our house up for sale! It is a great A-frame home with tons of character. The house sits on an acre of land just off of Lower Tuskeegee. We have a 8x12 shed for storage and plenty of land to do whatever you'd like with it. From the porch you can see the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is within a great community known as Carolina Vistas.
There is one room, bathroom, and living room downstairs. On the middle floor is the kitchen and dinning area. Also on that floor is a laundry room. There is also a beautiful loft above for bedroom or office space.

You have to check it out!

Flat Stanley

Audrey from W.D. Williams Elementary School in Swannanoa, NC wrote me a letter which contained her friend Flat Stanley.  The only reason he fit in the letter was because he was flattened by a bulletin board.  I took him around the Village to show him what Fontana has to offer.
He got to go on a hike with two Appalachian Trail Through Hikers named Luke and Matthew.  He shuttled them with me to the Trailhead.  There I showed Stanley a nice view of Fontana Lake and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  It was a little cold so we went back to the Village where we sat by the fireplace with some people here on a Sierra Club Trail Work Outing.  After they chatted it up a bit, I took him to the Rooms Directors Office, which was probably the most boring part of his trip.  There he sat in his chair and really felt like a big wig.  We went back outside and I took him on a little drive in Fontana Village's Hummer to show him what one of those tours are like.

He didn't like being cooped up too long so we went outside and played some Disc Golf on our 18 hole pro course.  When we finished that we drove pass the 1875 Gunter Cabin.  He jut to a peak out the window.  We went to the pool and Stanley acted like he was going to float in the lazy river.  I really thought he was going to do it!  Flat Stanley is a crack up.
We did a few other things, but the most memorable part is when he playe with a bear.  Don't be fooled by the picture.  Stanley is okay.  They were just playing.  You can check out all the photos of his trip here.

Spring in the Smokies

It's Spring in the Smokies, but someone forgot to tell the Smokies that.  It has been snowing for a while and looked, as always, breathtaking while driving to work this morning.
Sarah wanted a family photos so we got out and took these few pics.
Pence jumped out of the car and began running in the snow even though she was wearing sandals.  If having your kid run in the snow in sandals isn't enough, we brought Autumn outside in her pajamas.

More on Guatemala

The kids of Guatemala, especially in the town we stayed at the majority of the time, liked having their photos taken.  If you had a camera in your hands they would say, "photo?"  They enjoyed looking at themselves in the viewfinder even more then having their pic taken.  When you would turn around the camera they would swarm around you nearly pushing you over to see what they looked like.
I've also posted a few mug shots of the team that went over to Central America.
